Whitening Planned Around Your Smile

Teeth can darken from foods, beverages, tobacco, aging, medications, injury, or changes inside the tooth. Because different types of discoloration respond differently, the first step is identifying the likely source and checking for decay, cracks, sensitivity, or gum concerns.

Acacia Dental offers both take-home whitening and one-visit in-office whitening. Dr. Aaron Jeziorski can explain the option that fits your starting shade, sensitivity history, existing dental work, and goals.

New patients receive complimentary teeth whitening. After your first comprehensive exam and cleaning, whitening is included at no charge under the current practice offer. Confirm eligibility and details when you schedule, or see our financial page for current offers, insurance, and financing information.

Whitening Options

Take-Home Whitening

Custom trays hold professional whitening gel against the teeth according to the schedule provided by the practice. The trays are designed for your mouth and can support a gradual, controlled process at home.

One-Visit In-Office Whitening

For patients who prefer to begin under the team's supervision, Acacia Dental also lists an in-office tray whitening option. In a single visit of roughly an hour, the gums are protected and a stronger professional gel is applied in supervised cycles, so a noticeable change is often visible before you leave. The specific protocol and follow-up are reviewed after the clinical evaluation. Many patients pair an in-office session with take-home trays for touch-ups.

Coordinating Other Cosmetic Care

Fillings, crowns, bridges, and veneers do not whiten like natural enamel. If you are considering other visible restorations, whitening may need to be completed before their shade is selected.

What to Expect

  1. Evaluation and Shade Record

Dr. Jeziorski checks your teeth and gums for decay, cracks, recession, or restorations that could affect the plan. Your starting shade is recorded with a shade guide and intraoral photos so you can compare before-and-after results honestly rather than from memory.

  2. Choosing Your Option

Together you decide between one-visit in-office whitening, custom take-home trays, or both. The choice depends on how quickly you want results, your sensitivity history, and any upcoming cosmetic work whose shade must be matched afterward.

  3. Whitening Treatment

For in-office whitening, the gums are protected and the gel is applied in supervised cycles during one appointment. For take-home whitening, the 3Shape scanner records your teeth, custom trays are made, and you follow the wear schedule provided.

  4. The First 48 Hours

Freshly whitened enamel absorbs stain more readily, so for about 48 hours after treatment stick to light-colored foods and drinks. Avoid coffee, tea, red wine, cola, dark juices, berries, tomato sauce, soy sauce, curry, and tobacco. Mild sensitivity is common for 24 to 72 hours and usually fades on its own; a sensitivity toothpaste can help. Our in-office whitening aftercare page has the full list.

What Results Can Whitening Address?

Whitening often works best on many external yellow or brown stains. Gray discoloration, fluorosis, trauma-related color changes, and restorations may respond differently or not at all. Results and sensitivity vary, and no final shade can be guaranteed.

Follow the product and personal instructions provided by Acacia Dental. Contact the office if you experience more sensitivity or tissue irritation than expected.

Preparing the Mouth Before Whitening

A whitening consultation is also an opportunity to identify concerns that color alone cannot explain. A dark area may be surface stain, but it can also relate to decay, a leaking restoration, a crack, trauma, or a change inside one tooth. Gum irritation and sensitivity history matter because whitening products contact the teeth close to the gumline.

If treatment is appropriate, Acacia Dental can document the starting condition and explain which teeth are expected to respond. Cleaning or other dental care may be recommended before whitening so the plan begins with an accurate view of the teeth and healthy enough tissues.

Using Custom Trays Responsibly

Custom trays are designed from records of your mouth, but they still need to be used with the gel, amount, sequence, and cleaning method provided by the practice. More product or longer use does not guarantee a better result and can increase unwanted sensitivity or tissue contact. Keep whitening materials away from children and follow the storage instructions supplied with the system.

If a tray no longer seats after dental work, becomes damaged, or causes persistent irritation, stop improvising and contact the office. The team can review the fit and determine the appropriate next step. Do not share a custom tray or whitening material with another person.

Maintaining Perspective on Shade

Natural teeth are not uniformly one color, and lighting can influence how shade appears. Whitening aims to lighten responsive natural tooth structure, not create a guaranteed shade or match every restoration. Patients with visible crowns, bridges, veneers, or fillings should discuss whether those materials will look different after the surrounding teeth change.

Color can also shift again with time and habits. Follow-up decisions should be based on the condition of the mouth and Acacia's directions rather than continuous unsupervised use. The cosmetic overview and veneers page explain how whitening fits into the broader family of appearance-focused services.

Questions, Answered

Teeth Whitening FAQs

Is Professional Whitening Right for Everyone?

No. Active decay, gum disease, pregnancy considerations, severe sensitivity, and certain types of discoloration may change the recommendation. An evaluation is needed first.

How Long Will the Result Last?

Color can change again over time. Diet, tobacco use, home care, and periodic maintenance influence how long the brighter appearance is noticeable.

Will Whitening Change My Crowns or Fillings?

No. Restorative materials generally keep their existing shade, which is why visible dental work should be discussed during planning.

How White Will My Teeth Get?

It varies. Yellow and brown surface stains usually respond well, and many patients see a change of several shades, while gray or trauma-related discoloration may lighten less. Your starting shade is recorded so the change can be measured, but we do not promise a specific final shade, and the most natural-looking result is one that suits your skin tone and the whites of your eyes.

Is Whitening Safe?

Professional whitening supervised by a dentist has a long safety record when used as directed. Temporary sensitivity and mild gum irritation are the most common side effects and usually resolve within a few days. Whitening is not recommended during pregnancy, with untreated decay or gum disease, or for children whose teeth are still developing, which is why an evaluation comes first.

How Do I Care for My Trays?

Rinse trays with cool water after each use, brush them gently with a soft toothbrush and no toothpaste, and let them air dry in their case. Keep them away from heat, which can warp them, and away from pets and children. Bring them to your dental visits so we can check the fit, and let us know if they no longer seat properly after dental work.
