Daily Cleaning and Storage
- Remove and rinse the appliance after eating.
- Brush every surface with a denture brush or soft toothbrush and mild denture cleanser or soap—do not use abrasive toothpaste.
- Soak the appliance in water or an approved denture solution when it is not being worn.
- Remove it at night so the tissues can rest, unless your dentist has instructed otherwise.
Handling and Everyday Use
- Clean the appliance over a folded towel or basin of water to reduce the chance of breakage if dropped.
- Keep it away from hot water, hot cars, direct heat, and pets.
- Begin with soft food and introduce firmer foods gradually as you adapt.
- Never use household glue or attempt a repair at home—contact the office for professional repair.
Immediate Dentures and Partials
After teeth are removed, leave an immediate appliance in place for the period directed by your dentist—often the first 48–72 hours—to help control swelling. Initial soreness, fullness, gagging, and loose fit can occur as the tissues heal and shrink.
- Follow your extraction instructions and medication directions.
- Use a soft or liquid diet to support healing.
- Do not place adhesive directly over fresh extraction sites.
- Return for scheduled sore-spot adjustments, tissue conditioning, relines, and final-appliance planning.
Call Us If
- The appliance causes a sore spot, rocks, slips, or no longer fits comfortably.
- You find a crack, chip, sharp edge, or broken part.
- An immediate denture cannot be reinserted or bleeding is not controlled.
